Lucy Bryant

March 2, 2026 by

Our sweet beautiful Lucy has passed through the Sacred Veil.

Lucy has been our beloved pet since 2008. She and hundreds of other pets were moved that year from shelters in the Houston area when Hurricane Ike was threatening the Gulf coast. She was in McKinney shelter when she found and adopted us and stayed with us for 17 years.

We learned shorty after moving to Colorado in 2022 that her kidneys were failing. Her vet told us she’d probably only live another year, maybe 3 if we were lucky. She defied the odds though and lived almost 4 more years. There were times we thought she’d outlive us and I actually spoke to Anna recently about caring for her if it came to that. Her quality of life was great right up until this weekend when she took a drastic turn for the worse.

Lucy was a sweet loving cat. She enjoyed human company – she actually thought that everyone who came over was here to see her. If you came into our home, Lucy considered you her friend.

Our hearts are broken and we will miss her terribly. We’d like to thank her medical team at Friendship Hospital for Animals for helping us manage her kidney disease, the loving team from Home to Heaven for coming to our home to help her cross over, and to her Rover sitter, Cassidy, who always took excellent loving care of her when we travelled.

We love you, Lucy and we will miss you. Our home feels so empty without you here.

Your beloved pet is sick

The diagnosis and subsequent prognosis aren't good. Now is the time to contemplate advanced animal hospice care or putting your pet to sleep (euthanasia). But where do you turn for help? What are the next steps? How do you make this final period of your companion’s life as peaceful as possible? Read more...
